Bud was first educated in the
world of auto racing at a very early age as his father Clarence "Bud"
Vidal Sr. participated in racing flat heads in the Stock Car division at
the famed Schoentown, PA facility, Anthracite Raceway. Clarence was
followed by Bud's Uncle Bob (Vidal) who ran the in the "Hobby Car" class
at the quarter mile raceway.
Bud's first on track experience started in 1983 as he
drove for both his Uncle Bob and Francis Tippler in the modified #78, then
the "#EZ1", and later ran 4 cylinder race cars on the pavement at Mahoning
Valley Speedway until he decided to retire from racing to raise his
family.
Bud returned to racing after a 10 year hiatus upon the
emergence of the enduro car division at Big Diamond Raceway. "Racing
in the first enduro race at Big Diamond raceway was a blast" said Bud, as
he was able to race against his son Tim who defeated his father in his
Daytona, in spite of Bud's two lap lead, as transmission problems
sidelined the elder Vidal. "This was the proudest moment of my life
to that date", says Bud. As the cliché goes, "once a racer, always a
racer", that one time out after 10 years was the bug who bit him and he's
been back racing since.
Trying to be competitive on a very limited budget, four
years ago we entered the Big Diamond Raceway Roadrunner class and have
been active since. On paper, our success is currently limited to
four heat wins but who measures success on paper? It's a success
when we get to the race track, unload our race cars, and participate in
doing what we love, trying very hard to do our best every time out.
This success continues this season as in 2009 my
youngest son Tyler has entered the 4 cylinder enduro division racing a
1992 Chevrolet Cavalier we prepared for him. Bud says "I love to
watch him compete and he will be running in the roadrunner class as soon
as possible, perhaps as early as next season".
"With the support of my wife Angel, my brother John,
and our crew who let me chase my dream of winning a feature event, I can
only hope not to let them down, we all hope you enjoy our website" - Bud
Vidal. "I'd also like to thank all of our fans for making this all
possible". |
